in the news

when i wake pretty early in the morning i watch bbc world news america. i find i learn all sorts of things that i feel i should know about but don't.
apparently the OECD (organization for economic co-operation and development) forum 2008 begins today. ok. whatever. but as it turns out, combating climate change in the face of worldwide economic slowdown is a major theme of the Forum. better still, Secretary-General Angel GurrĂa seems to be a man with a clue:
"We don't have to choose between saving the planet and not saving the planet; that's not a choice...The cost of doing the right things, of taking action, is a fraction of the cost of inaction."
wow. it's almost like we're not going to hell in a handbasket.
