my first snowman! it seems as though it took just as long to build a 3" snowman as it would have taken to build a 3 ft. snowman. and my hands were just as cold!

i'm still deciding on an eye color for timo. but he's the exact shape i was aiming for. i had no pattern so i was just sculpting him more or less so there was a lot of pulling out of stitches and redoing. i'm quite pleased with myself i must say.

favorite quote from my favorite character, 'ness' (pictured) on bbc america britcom "gavin and stacey." it's actually more like, " what's occurrin' " and with a welsh accent.
but more importantly, it's what i was thinking when i discovered that the photos i took this afternoon (of smith and a couple of friends) were erased from my memory card. then i was thinking, "scheiße!" now i have to do it all over again tomorrow as it's dark now.

i couldn't decide what i wanted to do with new friends smith and jones. first, the intent was that they be a bit more anonymous. more like lumps with suggestions of limbs and little dot eyes. yet, they seem a bit more than that. especially jonesy with his shock of hair. i just realized that my grandfather had hair like that --seriously standing up and white and whatnot. my first thought was to photograph them but before that happened i whipped out a paintbrush (and a pencil and eraser and ballpoint pen and some paper) and some paint. and this happened.
"portrait of jones" only his friends call him jonesy.

i got some extremely useful stuff today at a thrift store i really like. i've been crocheting these characters i created and i'm always on the lookout for inexpensive yarn that fits the color scheme. the frames will probably come into use around christmas present making time. i don't currently do a whole lot of knitting but the little kit seemed like a handy thing to have.

i made pea soup! ok. not major news but super tasty. the thing is, i don't recall ever having had pea soup in my life. i like peas just fine --usually with mashed potatoes-- but i don't mash my peas. but i saw this super quick recipe on "you are what you eat" on bbc america:
onion
bouillon cube
water
frozen peas
dice and sauté onion. add bouillon cube, water and peas. simmer until heated through. blend.
i have a total morbid fascination with this show in which a small, acerbic diet guru bullies "britain's worst eaters" into a new lifestyle of exercise and healthy eating. the best parts are the all-the-crap-you-ate-in-a-week table of shame and the pithy narration. so along the way, the acerbic diet guru (gillian mckeith) drops a couple of recipes for benefit of the audience. thanks, gillian. i had never considered making pea soup before. yum.
one day i'll make gordon ramsay's broccoli soup.

nostalgia attack

so i was scouring the shelves of the salvation army thrift store looking for something amazing when i found this awesome MOTU thermos. i did not buy this thermos as i have no need for one (irrespective of the big crack in the bottom). but i did have a bit of a nostalgia attack. i never had a he-man lunchbox and it's unlikely that i would have gotten one if i'd asked for it but that show rocked! i currently have season one in my netflix queue and after revisiting disc one i realized two things:
one--those lessons at the end of every episode are oddly random and more lame than i remembered and
two--that the incidental music totally makes that show!

when i wake pretty early in the morning i watch bbc world news america. i find i learn all sorts of things that i feel i should know about but don't.
apparently the OECD (organization for economic co-operation and development) forum 2008 begins today. ok. whatever. but as it turns out, combating climate change in the face of worldwide economic slowdown is a major theme of the Forum. better still, Secretary-General Angel Gurría seems to be a man with a clue:
"We don't have to choose between saving the planet and not saving the planet; that's not a choice...The cost of doing the right things, of taking action, is a fraction of the cost of inaction."
wow. it's almost like we're not going to hell in a handbasket.

target + rogan makes me a target shopper

some people love target. they're in there every week. they can't get enough of the place. i'm not one of those people. i almost never go to target. i can't really come up with reasons i need to shop there.
but as it happens i'm not immune to persuasion by tv commercials. i saw the target spot with rogan gregory about his new line for target. naturally, i went online (http://pressroom.target.com/pr/news/fashion/go-international/album.aspx?id=7694) to have a look and i saw some pants i thought were cute. none of the rest of the line was really my syle but i don't have to like everything. so i raced out to target to get the wide-leg trouser jeans in black and/or wide-leg pants in white before they were gone. that point was very clear in the ads --limited time only. i was shocked to find that they actually fit--sort of.
i was stoked to find that they are indeed 100% organic cotton only, no spandex anywhere. i snapped them up because they were the best fit i'm gonna get from a size 1 and, as luck would have it, i was able to have someone take them in within hours of my purchasing them. my good fortune hasn't totally converted me though. i was only able to find the black pair and i was really feeling like a summer in white and i still haven't been to the big target to see if they have them. in fact, i drove right past the place thinking, "i really should go in and have a look." but i just couldn't do it.
